Hi everyone!

Hi everyone!
Last minutes before the sessionstarts I would like to upload the video where Montse Veyrat tells us how to make a Spanish national dish. I and my son enjoyed the presentation, hope, you will do enjoy it, too!!!
It took us moreeee than 10 minutes, and we couldn't finish it when needed, but it seems to me, it's a very interesting video)))
By the way, the presentation is in Spanish but it's quite understandable even to us, people from Ukraine!
Montse Veyrat, you are the best cook I've ever spoken to)))
No time ti upload it in Youtube, so, here we are!

I'm sorry that both of us, my partner and I, had a tight work schedule last week and couldn't find time to get together for the assignments.

Here come the slides I would use for my session. Once again, I recycled one of my materials, this time a video...

Anne did a wonderful job as a host (!), and I had so much fun experimenting and learning all about the Zoom.

As you can see, my presentation is short and sloppy, but I spent lots of time exploring what I can do with this platform. My learning objectives were...
1) to use various sound files effectively
2) to try different layout styles
3) to experiment how virtual background works.

Some of the tricks I learned this week....

--It is possible to have fake participants or virtual guests--it would be useful in case guest speakers can't make it to the meeting. This only worked with my iPhone 8 (not iPhone 5 or my old iPad).

--You can embed a sound file on each PPT slide and create sounds as if someone were speaking.

--You will not hear the sound unless you put a check mark on "Share Computer Sound" when you share your PPT file. (...so I should be able to hear the BGM of Kahoot?)

--It is possible to change the vertical layout style so you can view in Side-by-Side Mode. Just drag the video boxes and push toward the top of the screen.

--Only four participants were shown (and one person's video box was hidden) probably because I didn't put a check mark on "Display up to 49 participants."

Dear All!

Dear All!
here's our week2 video in which I conduct a lesson to Dima,a student of mine, and Kevin Ryan acts as an expert.
Sorry for numerous mistakes in my English (both Dima and I were nervous) so, we just started learning Past Simple and Kevin Ryan made Dima practise it.
I didn't do a recording of our face-to-face lesson because it was the very beginning of it... and zoom "did not want" to cooperate with me(((( several starts...
However, we had a great experience and I hope Dima will make progress in learning and practising English!
It was fun and a great pleasure, thank you Kevin Ryan, we did it!

Hi

Hi,
This week has been full of challenges... finding a student to do this was the first one, sorting out a time was the next one, sticking to time limits is a challenge I always have, and uploading this video has been the final one ;-) Got there in the end...thanks Edwin for such an interesting insight into your culture. Nerea and I loved it!

At last, we could make our meeting today.

At last, we could make our meeting today. All the safeguarding policies and lack from support from the IT in schools/institutions can put down teacher's motivation, but this was not our case. Using our phone, Paloma "came" to our workshop and it was an unforgettable experience for my students. When the online meeting finished they created their blog entries, and a fun fact: They didn't want to go for their lunch. They just wanted to write and write about Paloma's grandchildren!
Thank you, Paloma! You are such a great teacher!

Yuko Kato was kind enough to host me as an "expert" speaker about storytelling. Due to our time zones and our teaching situations, we decided to recruit "students" for the completion of this assignment.
I know there are a lot of videos to watch from a lot of people, but if anyone has time, your feedback is much appreciated!

Hi everyone.

Hi everyone. Hosein Azizvakili invited me to visit his class of teacher trainees in Tehran and speak to them about learner autonomy, though I was determined to model and demonstrate the process by which they could become autonomous teachers by talking WITH them about their practice and reflection (thereby making them the experts who were visiting me). I expected Zoom to cut us off at 40 min, and the first 10 min was setup and equipment adjustment, which I recorded because I thought it was instructive. Anyway we kept going not for 30 min but for almost 50 (expecting the cutoff at any minute). Sorry about that (you can just watch the first ten, and the last ten where Hossein's students become the experts and tell me about their challenges teaching in Tehran).

This is raw video. I'm leaving on a trip later today so I didn't have time for editing or enhancement. Also I learned (again) to be very aware of what Zoom is doing as opposed to what you see on your screen. The first part was fine, we went from gallery view as you see in the thumbnail to slide show (screen share) where the two cameras shared the top of the screen, but when I stopped the screen share I saw my audience on the screen with my camera at the top. But when I saw the video I realized that we were in speaker mode, and mostly the last part was talking head with me doing most of the talking. Note to self, after leaving screen share monitor whether you are in speaker mode or camera matrix mode. The latter is much more effective when there is a speaker and an audience. Nice that Hossein put the camera on the class throughout.

Enjoy, and I'll try to make it on Sunday, not sure how that will work out at this moment though.

Yesterday Lisa Woods conducted an online session to introduce the art of public speaking to two of my students, Ng Sai Sun and Ng Sri Sham.

They are brothers with Sai Sun at 12 years of age and Sri Sham at 10.

Hi everyone!

Hi everyone!
I hope you're all doing well!

I'm not very familiar with Zoom or Skype for teaching as I use a different platform for my online classes.

Marianna and I are going to have our assignment tomorrow (we're very busy teachers!) and I wonder how you record Skype conversations. Do you use your mobiles for that? Is that simple?

Waiting for some ideas!
Thanks a lot!
Paula

Vance and Hosein's homework for this week, in case you want to join :)

Vance and Hosein's homework for this week, in case you want to join :)

Originally shared by Vance Stevens

Learning2gether episode 394 will take place Fri Oct 19 0530 UTC when Vance Stevens connects with Hossein Vakili's class of ELT teachers in Tehran

Hossein has asked Vance to present at a web conference for his teachers and colleagues at Raja Language Institute in Tehran and speak to them about learner autonomy, which Vance suggests has to start out with teachers themselves becoming autonomous learners.

Participants can read beforehand:

Stevens, Vance. (2007). The Multiliterate Autonomous Learner: Teacher Attitudes and the Inculcation of Strategies for Lifelong Learning. Independence, Winter 2007 (Issue 42) . Available: VanceStevens_multiliterateAutonomousLearner.pdf

Associated slides are posted here: http://www.slideshare.net/vances/lets-start-with-teacher-autonomy-multiliteracies-and-lifelong-learning/.

This is not a top down presentation; it is meant to be a conversation. Hossein's students are to read / review Vance’s materials and be prepared to ask questions in order to hold a conversation with the invited speaker (15 min). Online participants in the event will then be invited to speak to Hossein and his students about their view of online facilitation (15 min).

The event will take place in Zoom, https://zoom.us/j/5786977523

The conversation will be recorded and posted to YouTube. By attending, you implicitly agree to being recorded.
