Hi everyone! Please accept my apologies for the very late upload, almost at the 11th hour - due to issues with scheduling and then a power cut!
Anyway, I'm happy to share a short lesson on introducing word connections and word webs to help learn and remember vocabulary and develop vocabulary learning strategies :-)
I hope that this is of some interest and/or use:

And here is a link to the handout:

I look forward to any comments, questions, and/or suggestions!

Cool! That's a really interesting lesson! I really like how you started out with pen and paper with a "student" who is nervous about learning online. And you have a very good sense of where your camera is. I also like your clear instructions for using the technology. It's good to hear how you do that. I also enjoyed watching you figure out how to move things around the screen. Now I know how to do it too! Also, lovely to see Amelie Kelly's face again.
ReplyDeleteLove the 8 connections word web. What level students do you use it with Phil? I would like to be as cool, calm and collected as you online 😀
ReplyDeleteAnne Hendler Thank you for all the positive feedback and helpful observations, noticing things that I do not see myself but will look for again and aim to keep being consistently aware of :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Lisa Wood.
ReplyDeleteI've mostly used these materials with 1st year university students in Japan (approx CEFR A1-A2, or EIKEN 2 in Japan)
I wrote the materials (and the others hosted on the website) to be as accessible as possible, using a vocab profiler to help ensure as much as possible is written with the most frequent 1000 words, if not 2000.
I've also introduced word webs and associations with JHS kids (aged 13-14 who were about A1 or below), although not with these materials. Vocabulary note books with a colour and pictures or mind-maps work very well, too :-)
Phil Brown I find mind maps really useful too ;-)
